FOAMMM creates the kind of music ideal to wake and bake to. The psychedelic soft croons of the vocalist meshing with the slow-moving strums of the melody are vibrant and malleable. While I took their single “Honey”, off of the upcoming album set to drop April 26th, to be vibrantly optimistic, it is possible to read a deeper message into their ambient tones. This deeper meaning comes to life once you get past the ambient tones to the nearly indiscernible lyrics.
“Touching honey…”, what does that mean? It’s human nature to search for meaning in music, sometimes there isn’t any. Sometimes we read too far into it, destroying our ability to enjoy the simplicity of truly good music.
Does touching honey refer to reaching for something sweet and far away? Is it a love lyric? Is it a warning not to get stuck when you finally grasp what you are searching for?
The music of FOAMMM is like that of a dark fairy-tale. Full of magic and whimsy, hiding a possible underlying message between the beautiful words and distinct imagery. But, if unlike me, you see no need to overthink it, it’s still beautiful. And, It’s still good wake and bake music.
