I fully intended on seeing Kachi when I was in Chicago last month, but public parking and some personal deep dish pizzas had other plans. Proving that the Chicago DIY scene is far superior than New York’s, the project was playing in the backyard of a magical, towering apartment called The Litterbox. Even though I regrettably missed the set that night, I’ve been able to catch up with incomparably catching debut single “This Is Not” in the meantime. The track, produced by Colin Croom of Twin Peaks, is maybe deceptively optimistic in it’s instrumentation, but the *almost* pop leaning melody is rooted by Kachi’s folksy rasp. The song has that kind of “I’m going to go out in the world and walk and think about shit” kind of vibe to it. Like I can feel the leaves crunchy and the breeze blowing and my mind mulling. There’s also a release to it. It’s not that there’s necessarily a pressure building up, but when it opens up musically in the chorus it washes over you in a weirdly satisfying way. Check out the track below and get to know Kachi with a few of his favorite things.
Cats
I waste so much time watching cat videos instead of playing guitar….and I really really suck at guitar. My old cat honestly hated me. I would annoy her with my attempts of unsolicited cuddling and petting. I loved her so much. She my Day 1, my Ride or Die. Miss you terra :/
Naruto
Naruto literally made me the man I am today. I have no problem saying that a fictional cartoon character taught me that no matter who you are, you can beat the odds. Naruto has to be the most inspirational story ever told (FACT). Sorry Pursuit of Happiness, maybe if there were ninjas in your movie I would have chosen it.
Linkin Park
C’mon fam you already know what it is. THIS THAT “your mom yelled in front of your friends, so you slam all the doors in the house” MUSIC. I’m just playin my parents are African, so there was definitely no door slamming… Anyways If you were 12 and had a myspace this and My Chemical Romance were so lit.
Russell Westbrook
I love basketball and most of all I love my man Russell Westbrook. Westbrook also known as “Brodie” has to be one of the most interesting players in the league. He has a ton of negative qualities to his game, but he became league MVP anyway. He reminds me of myself. When it comes to music, there is so much I just can’t do, but what I can do is too good to ignore baby. LETS GET IT!
Brandon McCartney aka Lil B
I have been listening to Lil b since I was 12 years old. I’m 23 now……Lil b has forever changed the history of music and is hands down a legend. Protect Lil b at all costs. Thank You Based God!
My Grandma
She died a few years ago but she pretty much raised me. Everything I do, I do for her. I hope you’re having a good time up there. I’m doing pretty good down here too. Thank you
Skateboarding
Skateboarding is actually how I got into music and is one of the biggest things in my life. I have made so many awesome friends through skateboarding. The day I can’t skate is probably the day I’ll lose my mind. I wanted to be a professional skater as a kid, but I really sucked so I started to play guitar instead hahaha.
Pokemon
Y’all Pokemon is awesome! I played and watched pokemon non-stop for years. Seriously, it’s almost disgusting the amount of pokemon I played as kid. Anyways Pokemon is lit and im not talking Pokemon Go. The OG’s know about Pokemon Gold and Silver.
My Friends and family
Honestly, I feel truly blessed to have such awesome and amazing people in my life. So many people have helped me along the way. I love you all. Thank you!!! WE REALLY LIVE LIKE THIS!!!
Wilco
Wilco is the greatest band to ever exist. They are hands down my biggest inspiration. Yes I know I am not a middle aged white man, but I can’t help it, they’re just so good…..
