I was sitting somewhere. I was thinking a little bit. I was thinking a little bit in the context of the state of this mad world. Then I was trying to think of recent songs that weren’t about last night or whiney heartbreak or self-indulgence or songs where I can’t even hear the words because they are merely space fillers for notes made by a human mouth and it wasn’t easy beyond the ones I already knew. A lot of the powerful ones that came to mind were timeless and of the past. Why are these people not using their platform? Why are most musicians not talking about what’s going on? Why are people starting bands to sound like another fad band? Why are people making music centered around aesthetic instead of because they have to say something? Why are there modern folk bands singing about the dustbowl and why are people making beats and romanticizing their “wild night” at “the club” when we live in a society where it is considered sane to be insane, where psychopaths are in the running to run the ship, where cops are killing minorities, where people can’t see past their own little delusional bubble and they blab about it on the internet.
Anyway, that’s a lot so I started putting together a playlist of these songs to have some powerful messages all in one place then I made it collaborative so that anyone can add their ideas to it and keep it growing. It’s called “WAKE UP.”
