Jeffertitti Moon’s spring tour is one to not miss. Moon is taking the sounds of Jeffertitti’s Nile across the United States this month, allowing crowds to experience the group’s dazzlingly cosmic and nuanced soundscapes firsthand. Here, Moon opens up about how creative communities can change across the globe, new releases from Jeffertitti’s Nile, the most gratifying components of live performance, as well as what listeners can expect to hear and see on the current tour.

You recently kicked off your US tour. From your perspective, have you noticed elements of culture and dynamics within creative communities changing as you move from city to city?

Every city has its own flavor.  Crowds will react to different elements of the show from town to town, or really on any given night.  Things change subtly in every state of the US, but not as much as different countries in Europe for example. There is still some elements that bond us all & remain innately human no matter what part of the world I find myself in. There’s a saying, that rings true to me…  “It’s not where you are, but who you’re with.”

If you had to pick three colors that described the experience of hearing the music of Jeffertitti’s Nile live, what would they be and why?

Purple, Turquoise, Fuchsia (bright ethereal androgynous colors)

The recently released live version of “Blue Spirit Blues” sounds great. What drew you toward releasing a live version of that track specifically over another?

That track always feels great to play live.  Fast tempos & a lot of wild frantic energy.

Speaking of new releases, “Heaven” offers a really cerebral listening experience. What sort of epiphany or shift in perspective do you hope listeners have after listening to it?

It’s really up to each listener, but there’s a bunch of sub-continuous tempo/meter changes.  Hopefully it’s a mind expanding experience. The lyrics, as nonlinear as they are, also hold some weight & ring true, eternally.

Are there any cities or venues you’re most looking forward to visiting on your current tour?

New York baby!  Atlanta was fun, as usual. Chicago. Really, I’m excited about visiting any place with open ears and hearts.

Is there a particular track that you especially enjoy performing live? If so, what is it and why?

I’ve been doing my own cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” for years now, and it always gets the crowd going + singing along with me.  It’s a sure way to shake people out of their molds a bit & get them to let loose with me.

Live performance is such a powerful, raw medium through which to perform and experience music alike. In your experience, what do you find to be most fulfilling element(s) about performing live?

I’ve been dancing on stage every night this tour, and it always gets me sweating + gasping for breath. Feels like I’ve really done something at the end of each night.  Can fall asleep content that way 😉
