Premiere: Sipper “OMG”

Delusions of grandeur collide with the harsh reality of being a failed to launch millennial in Sipper’s “OMG”. Are mommy issues the new daddy issues? Are we destined to turn into our parents? Is suburbia a swirling technicolor world reminiscent of dingy Christmas lights that we can never escape? Who’s to say. Even amidst the declarations that a very docile looking young man is, “the meanest motherfucker on the baseball team,” there’s a level of self-awareness in acknowledging that age might turn us all into assholes. It’s the juxtaposition between carefree youth and the dread the comes with age that propels us into an abrupt (pseudo) resolution that I think resonates with most of us: I’m almost ready.

The video launch coincides with the drop of their latest EP Adam Driver. Check out Amanda Lang’s thoughts on it below:

I will start this review by saying that I am inclined to be biased toward any band who includes a love song to the magnificence of Adam Driver on their EP. Sipper, if you are reading this, I want you to know that I also want Adam Driver to whisper sweet things to me. Someday, I hope we all get our wish.

This debut EP by NYC locals Sipper is full of Summery, romantic tracks. The sentiments are simple, in “Metric” the soft voice crooners tell their lover “Please stay, don’t go.” It’s refreshing. In this “Thank you, Next” era of music, we have plenty of angsty ballads depicting lost love, and painful breakups. It’s heartening to finally hear some music where love is depicted as relatively stable, if perhaps a bit one-sided (again Sipper, I feel your pain in the case of Adam Driver).

There are shades of 90’s era Strokes in Sipper’s style, and even their single “Pity Party” seems relatively upbeat. After a full season of Wintery depression and angry rock music, I don’t think that I am alone in my relief at getting some music that feels designed to put a smile on my face.

I have one question, and one question only: Sipper, did you purposely put out your EP debut to coincide with the US premiere of Adam Driver’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote? If not, this seems like kismet. You are meant to be.

You can keep up with Sipper on Facebook and Instagram
