Everyone has that one music video that struck them in such a shocking, horrific way– for me, it was Interpol’s “Evil.” Something about the striking claymation and chaotic manner left me anxious for the days following. Now, King Krule, aka Archy Marshall, has brewed up a video that could be considered even more haunting, for his latest track, “Dum Surfer.” Displaying a corpse-like King Krule and his similarly zombie-styled band, the video appears like the love (or death) child of Trainspotting and American Werewolf in London.
Gritty, gutsy and jarring, the accompanying track has a knack for making us shift a bit in our seats as well– its beginning is a bit cacophonous, finding resolve in its chorus, settling into that brand of cool and collected dark-wave pop that King Krule plays so well. And, it wouldn’t be a King Krule creation if we didn’t feel a bit uneasy, anyway.
King Krule’s upcoming album, The Ooz, will be released October 13 via True Panther Sounds/XL.
