Hippo Campus’ debut album dropped back in February, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still churning out captivating and creative new projects. The video for “western kids” meets that claim but also with a diversion. Set in a photoshop world, the Hippo Campus guys and all their glitchy props go through a trippy adventure filled with art-house like subtext. There is more complexity to this video than the young dudes partying in a California mansion (“South”) or having campfires and jam sessions in a snow covered home (“way it goes”). In their strides to show artistic maturity, Hippo Campus show progress by putting their upbeat track in a digital world reminiscent of an edge of the millennium tech-based movie. Hippo Campus are currently on tour now, but not due back in New York for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, you can see the boys in the “western kids” video below.
