Pretty self explanatory. There are a lot of new tunes. You should check them out.

THE GOA EXPRESS – “Portrait”

THE GOA EXPRESS is coming to America for the first time this spring and I don’t think our country will ever be the same. The rowdy boys from Burnley are the quintessential brit-pop band for a new generation. “Portrait” is unsurprisingly, extremely catchy. James Douglas Clarke chews his consonants in the way only those in a post-Oasis, Manchester-adjacent city could (in the best way). The track allows each of the members to shine in their own right — the driving bass in the verse, the keys carrying through in the chorus, the punctuated drums in the bridge, and what is a great guitar band without its great guitarists.

Heartworms – Retributions Of An Awful Life

Emerging from the post-punk fodder, Heartworms has forged her own path. One that takes influence from farer reaching corners like goth, dance, and electronic. Mesmerizing, hypnotic, dark, dramatic. I’m very into it. The spoken word vocal approach is unexpected — in a more 2008-2012 direction interestingly enough, but it works. Her debut EP A Comforting Notion is out March 24th via Speedy Wunderground.

Model/Actriz – “Crossing Guard”

Let me dance to this. Where can I dance to this. Where is the dungeon in which I can dance to this. These are my immediate thoughts on “Crossing Guard”. An absolute banger of a track from one of Brooklyn’s best. As the track builds and intensifies, Cole Haden’s vocals warble and waver — almost reminiscent of Isaac Wood. The track is the second off their forthcoming LP Dogsbody out February 24th via  True Panther.

Wednesday – “Chosen to Deserve”

“Chosen to Deserve” details Wednesday’s adolescence and coming of age in North Carolina. While sentimental, it’s still matter of fact — an honest retelling of the way things were and are. It’s a peek into Karly Hartzman and the band’s world. Almost like the prologue to set up the audience to understand where they’re coming from now, with this in their rearview, but inextricably coloring their point of view along the way.

THUS LOVE – “Put On Dog”

THUS LOVE have been one of my favorite new bands to hit the scene in the past year. They balance the best part of the post punk sound we’ve been hearing for years with a knack for writing really interesting and catchy melodies. “Put On Dog” is a bold and brash follow up to their debut album Memorial. The band is heading out on tour across the pond, so be sure to check their schedule if you’re over there as well.

VLURE – “CUT IT”

My dream is to have VLURE play Market Hotel. Can you imagine? One of my favorite EPs from last year was VLURE’s Euphoria and “CUT IT” as a follow up does not disappoint. The Glasgow band will be hitting SXSW this year so make sure to add them to your list.
