Musical duo Boy Harsher have decided to go in a different direction for their next release — making a feature film. The Runner came from a dark place. Vocalist and Lyricist Jae Matthews had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and that paired with the worldwide chaos of the pandemic inspired producer Augustus Muller to create some grim, cinematic ideas and sketches. Unsure of the direction they would lead in, the image of a woman running in the woods kept coming front of mind. The film is somewhat of a “meta-documentary”, a form of catharsis while exploring lust, compulsion, and seduction. Taking inspiration from 70s slasher films, the duo leaned in to those visuals and aesthetics. The film also stars Kris Esfandiari of King Woman in her acting debut.
The film is soundtracked by 8 new songs from the duo in a mix of both dark instrumentals and pop elements. The first release, “Give Me a Reason” was previously teased at live shows, but has never been available in a recorded format.
The film will be making its worldwide theatrical debut in Mexico City on January 14 at Foro Lenin. Tickets are available here
