Watch: Silverbacks “Wear My Medals”

Silverbacks have been hard at work since the release of their debut record, Fad, in 2020. The first offering since the release is the angular, electric “Wear My Medals”. The video looks like an oil painting come to life as clay is shaped and molded in stop motion. Vocalist Emma Hanlon’s vocals float over a propelling and skittering rhythmic line. With the sharpness and the sweetness, there is also a darkness that grounds the track. Produced by Daniel Fox of Girl Band, there’s a definite sense of that influence stamped on Silverbacks’ own musical stylings.

For the video, the band let director Lauren Gregory take the reins. She shared, “The band gave me complete creative license, so I really got to let my imagination run wild.  For the swimming scenes, I took inspiration from the movie “A Philadelphia Story”, a scene in which Katherine Hepburn is swimming and climbing out of a pool.  When I was working on the boxing scenes, I watched a lot of footage of Muhammed Ali warming up before fights, jumping and punching the air, and tried to emulate his movements.  Out of everything, sculpting the hands playing bar chords on the guitar was the most fun.

The band will be touring Ireland and the UK this fall. Fingers crossed they’ll be able to make it stateside shortly.
