Think back, before the pandemic. It’s a Friday night; or heck, it could be a Wednesday. You’re meeting friends for drinks in downtown Manhattan, like you always do. It’s raining lightly, and the air smells cool, clean, new, as you dodge sidewalk puddles on the way to the bar from the train or wherever you were.

Do you remember that feeling, your worries slipping away? The potential for a good time? How effortless it was to lose oneself in the night, the friends, the strangers, the city?

With “Dance With Me,” Beau has taken that energy, the sweetness of abandon, and immortalized it in just under four minutes of bouncing chords and strong, swirling vocals that quite seriously challenge you not to dance. The music video, directed by Charles Billot, reflects the vitality of what New York nightlife was not so long ago, splicing footage of the band performing in their Soho studio with scenes from a night out on the town with their friends. It’s impossible not to recall one’s own memories of pre-pandemic bliss while watching the giddy group twirl in the rain.

“Dance With Me” arrives as the first single to follow Beau’s 2016 debut album put out on Kitsuné Musique, That Thing Reality, a twelve-track testimony to the young indie pop-rock duo’s building prowess. Within the largely acoustic venture, the singer/songwriter pair, consisting of vocalist Heather Goldin and guitarist Emma Jenney, appeared to capture the freshness of youth in the amber of a timeless sound as if cutting a record at 21 was no big feat.

Returning now with an expanded vision, the New York natives, who have been compared to everyone from Patti Smith to Stevie Nicks, Karen O, and Lana Del Rey, are sounding, more than anything, like themselves. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios and released September 30th via HeavyRoc Music, “Dance With Me” marks an exciting new chapter for Beau, one in which they invite you to take their hands and dance along.
