Los Angeles dream pop band Sumeau have released “Circle Circle”, the lead single off their forthcoming album This is Not a Dream, out November 13th. This latest cut, created and recorded in Hollywood’s historic EastWest Studios, is the delightfully refreshing musical equivalent of a creamsicle on a summer day.
“Circle Circle” is an infectiously cheerful listen, echoing the themes of togetherness, love, and hope throughout. “After the dark comes the light again,” chants Sumeau lead singer Kat Primeau to start the song, and we really believe her when she says it. There’s a sort of authenticity to the lyrics and feel of this song, a gleeful innocence and unwavering hope in the face of the negativity of our modern world. Thankfully, we’re shown where this reservoir of faith and love comes from: Friendship. In an increasingly distant society, it may seem difficult to maintain connections and relationships with the people in one’s life, but if “Circle Circle” teaches us anything, it’s that friends can be the most amazing lifeline to keep us hopeful for better things to come; for a light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe Kat Primeau’s words put it best: “Circle Circle is a tribute to friendship, specifically with the womxn in my life who give me hope for the future”…”When we sit together, listen as one, holding space and marveling at the moon, we are light for one another which cuts through all darkness.“
