“Them bleeding gum Comanche…do they still dance in Moonlight?” – Holy Spirit
“Beats me? Dust Bowls light my eyes, pure strings.” – RD
“I like to dance, but not in the air.” – Billy the Kid.

Got your bandanas around your face? Not too tight because we’re singing along to Brooklyn’s ZZZWalk’s latest single, “White Line Fever.” This here is the premier of their outlaw, cosmic-urban cowboy, karaoke video! So, pour yerself a shot of whiskey and press play. This gang has been kicking around New York’s scene for a while now and it’s a treat to hear their sound come to tape. ZZZWalk is the culmination of many of NYC’s top players (members include parts of Psychic Ills, The Men, Chomper, Tierra Del Fuego, and The Lovebudz…to name only a few!) It’s safe to say the main man behind the project is guitar extraordinaire, Jon Catfish DeLorme, whose skill in crafting tunes has drawn such weight as Mark Perro, Russell Hymowitz, Adam Amram, Hartwick Hanson, and Ivan Lee. I’m telling you it’s a wild smash of late 60’s Byrds and the cloudy weed smoke twang of Willie Nelson, let’s also throw in a dash of Gram Parsons, but hold on…this ain’t no rehashed throwback! Oh, no. ZZZWalk is now. The music is modern, with a nod to true American songwriting, and these fellas live it. Cause if you talk the talk, you must walk ZZZWalk.

Or…In Jon’s words…The song and the video is about highway hypnosis, missing somebody when you’re away from home amongst the scenery of the American highway. White Line Fever. Twilight zone billboards and gas station meals. ZZZWalk consists of lifers that are committed to the craft, often doing behind the scenes work. I’ve always thought of it operating in the same spirit as Area Code 615. 615 was the name of a Nashville country rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, taking their name from the telephone area code, which at the time covered all of Central and Eastern Tennessee. The band was made up of session musicians, recording only two albums before resuming normal session work. That’s the juice.

ZZZWalk’s debut LP Holy Royal Casino, drops on August 21st via Tall Texan. All proceeds will go to NAACP’s legal fund. Giddy Up!
